Omaha Nebraska... the wait...

Christmas is 5 days away... we are here in beautiful Omaha, Nebraska.  We are staying in a nice hotel room, Embassy Suites.  It is a big two room suite.  We have spent the day picking up a Christmas tree, and then decorating our room.

Little JJ is battling a cold and hardly has a voice.

We spoke with Laura from the law office here.  We need to meet with them and get some paperwork signed.

We have spoken with the incredible angel that is gifting us a daughter.  We are planning to go to dinner tomorrow night, but she did mention she has been having contractions all day.

Maybe we will get a call tonight...

We have made a list of things we need to be ready to grab and head to the hospital.  A diaper bag, a suitcase full of things for us and JJ to stay awhile.

I think we are going to take JJ to an urgent care tomorrow for a check up, his cold is pretty bad, and we better get checked out just in case.  Last thing we want is for one of us to have to stay behind for this event.  But I think the hospital will not let him in the room with us if he is sick.

Packing and Planning

Well it's happening!!  We are matched and we need to head to Omaha Nebraska.  So many arrangements need to be made... Christmas shopping, packing, lists... lists... events at school, KSG party, Cherrison Party, Millspaugh party. Presents to bring to each, baby items needed... oh yeah and I want to breastfeed... how am I going to get that going?? 

Building a Relationship

We finally spokw with the birthmom, that is what the adoption world calls her.  I want to call her an angel!  We spoke on the phone and learned a little more about each other.  She is a sweet woman.  Our conversation was about an hour but seemed shorter.  I wanted to know so much but wanted to give us more time to talk again... 

She picked us, thats a for sure.

My head is spinning!  Is this happening?

Matched!

We were driving through town with a friend and the phone rang. I was very distracted with a headache and could not focus on who was calling and what was being said.

I heard our Attorney's wife saying our profile had been showed to a birthmom and she chose us. What? us? Baby Girl? due in 6 weeks?

I almost dropped the phone! Eric was in a panic! Who is it?? What is happening? A girl? We were picked?

I had to hang up, I was so stunned, but my head was throbbing.

Eric and I called her back an hour later. I finally had something to eat and was prepared to learn more.

Adoption is an emotional roller coaster. When the phone rings it is always the beginning of a new ride. We had already been through several profiles being given to birthmoms so we were getting used to those conversations.

But as the day unfolded... so did our realization we had been picked... and were in the process of being matched.

Home Study!

Our home study seemed to go by without much trouble... we cleaned the house... baby proofed the entire house!!  Now we are locked out of the bathrooms and every cabinet.  Setting up the crib was the fun part....  imagine there might be a baby in there someday!!!
